{"id":9279,"date":"2025-04-22T11:28:52","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T09:28:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clover-vtl.com\/doc\/?post_type=manual_documentation&#038;p=9279"},"modified":"2025-05-08T17:11:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T15:11:10","slug":"microsoft-license-assignment-for-virtual-classroom","status":"publish","type":"manual_documentation","link":"https:\/\/clover-vtl.com\/doc\/documentation\/tutorials\/for-administrators\/microsoft-license-assignment-for-virtual-classroom\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft License Assignment for Virtual Classroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"toctoc\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-objective\">Objective<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of this tutorial is to <strong>manage Microsoft licensing<\/strong> for an example virtual classroom called <strong>&#8220;Web Development&#8221;<\/strong>, with <strong>20 students<\/strong>, giving them access to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Office 365 applications<\/strong> (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Microsoft Teams<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>OneDrive<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These services require users to have specific Microsoft licenses assigned to their accounts\u2014ideally through group-based licensing, which Clover supports when integrated with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 Eligible Microsoft Licenses (as a reminder)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As outlined in the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/clover-vtl.com\/doc\/documentation\/overview\/prerequisites\/\">Microsoft Licensing Requirements<\/a>, users must hold licenses that grant both AVD access and the necessary tools for a full learning experience (Office apps, Teams, etc.). Licensing options fall into two categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd39 Recommended All-in-One Licenses<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>These licenses bundle <strong>AVD access<\/strong>, <strong>Office 365 apps<\/strong>, <strong>Teams<\/strong>, <strong>OneDrive<\/strong>, and <strong>Microsoft Entra ID P1<\/strong>\u2014making them the simplest and most complete option:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Microsoft 365<\/strong>: E3, E5, A3, A5, F3, Business Premium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd38 Separate Licenses (must be combined)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re using standalone licenses, make sure the following requirements are met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>AVD Access<\/strong>: Windows Enterprise E3\/E5, Windows Education A3\/A5, or Windows VDA per user<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Additional Required Licenses <\/strong>for Group-Based License Assignment (choose one of the following):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Office 365 Enterprise E3<\/strong>, <strong>Office 365 A3<\/strong>, <strong>Office 365 GCC G3<\/strong>, <strong>GCCH E3<\/strong>, <strong>DOD E3<\/strong>, or higher <em>Recommended to benefit from Office apps, Teams, and other collaboration tools.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Microsoft Entra ID P1<\/strong> (or higher tier) <em>Required to enable group-based license assignment if you are <strong>not using Office 365 plans<\/strong>. However, this does <strong>not<\/strong> include Office productivity or collaboration tools.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd04 Understanding the Two Licensing Scenarios<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the remainder of this tutorial, we explore <strong>two licensing scenarios<\/strong> based on what the organization has already purchased from Microsoft:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Case 1 \u2013 Microsoft 365 Business Premium:<\/strong><br>This is a bundled plan that includes AVD access, Office 365 apps, Teams, OneDrive, and Microsoft Entra ID P1, making it the most straightforward and recommended setup.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Case 2 \u2013 Separate Licenses:<\/strong><br>In this scenario, the organization has acquired AVD access through Windows Enterprise E3\/E5, and productivity tools (Office, Teams) via Office 365 plans. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Each case described below provides a detailed, step-by-step guide to assigning licenses for a virtual classroom in Clover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-case-1-you-have-microsoft-365-business-premium\">Case 1: You Have <strong>Microsoft 365 Business Premium<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This license <strong>includes everything you need<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AVD access<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OneDrive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entra ID P1 (required for group-based licensing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-steps\">\ud83e\udded Steps:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-1-confirm-you-have-enough-licenses\">Step 1 \u2013 Confirm You Have Enough Licenses<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You need <strong>20 Business Premium licenses<\/strong> in your Microsoft 365 tenant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please refer to this <a href=\"https:\/\/clover-vtl.com\/doc\/documentation\/clover-vtl-administrators-guide\/microsoft-licenses-management\/\">guidance<\/a> to understand how to check that you have <strong>20 available Business Premium licenses<\/strong> in your Microsoft 365 tenant.
